It all TERRIFYS ME, I’m just a silly scaredy cat!

I’m dating a boy! Well more of a man, he is a decade older than me after all. But the same guy I wrote about months ago, in my I Like You post, the one I texted at Coachella in my moment of clarity. Well I wrote him this letter, after a very long story that I’ll keep mostly to myself, but that letter changed everything. And now, for the first time, a guy that I thought I had no chance with; well we are actually dating. We are enamored and smitten. Last Friday we went to see Pisces together (see below video) and I was nervous he wouldn’t like the music, so he wouldn’t want to go. BUT GUESS WHAT! He was open to going to the show, pay to go to this show of a band he didn’t know, and all because he knew I wanted to go¬†cause I wanted to dance.

Yeah, I have some bad habits to unlearn, or bad expectations. It’s interesting how we can so easily be trained to expect the worst, when it’s supposed to be normal for a fellow to WANT to go to things his gal. Wants to go REGARDLESS if he really wants to or not, but go¬†because he gets to spend time with his gal. There are a list of things I don’t ever want to feel again when it comes to matters of the heart, like the hot burn of off¬†and on¬†rejection. Happily I don’t think I’ll be feeling rejected, no not from him, not like that.

“Because Music Is My Heartbeat” says my shoes!

*Upcoming story on when I went to see this band a few weeks ago coming tonight to a blog near you!- well it didn’t come to you that night. But I have a bit of time now.

Wednesday May 23, 2012 was the Margot and the Nuclear So and So show, but this story begins the Saturday prior. Saturday May 19, 2012 I had a family gathering I needed to attend (happily) yet there were two fun events going on the same night, Cannibal Flower and Plants & Animals at The Satellite. Leaving the family gathering early after spending 4 hours with my cousins and Aunts, I drove to LA torn on what event to attend all down the 10. Finally I came to the conclusion I would hit up The Satellite, if I couldn’t find free parking then I would go to Cannibal Flower but that was my move.

When I pulled up to my normal spot about 30 mins from the headliners set and only 3 other cars were parked, I thought “This is either a small show, or I don’t see a new parking sign”. Turned out to be a small show, but mid headliner (Plants & Animals) set I spot the roommate of (at the time my crush) and semi-sort of- part time front desk person at the salon (my work) and her husband. Took me 8 minutes before I got the courage to walk up to the back of her to make sure I had made a correct identification, but once I did I was so happy. I was able to enjoy the show more as I now had a friend to dance with and just really enjoy the show.

Afterwards they invited me out to The Bootleg Theater to see a traditional Columbian band (or was it Ecuadorian) and just chill. So we did, as she has connections with the venue; so after a great night of conversation and tunes she kept telling me if there were ever a show I wanted to see at The Bootleg just ask. Little did she know there was a show I wanted to go to that very week. The next day I didn’t think much of the list invite to any show, but by Wednesday I was itching to see Margot.

Wondering Wednesday on the way to work whether to reach out to her or not, to my surprise she was working the front desk that day and I felt it was a sign. I asked mid-afternoon if she could get me in, and she happily shared how she needed to go there anyway. So I got to see Margot and the Nuclear So and So, amidst great conversation with the owner of The Fold/ promoter of The Bootleg and my friend; I would run into the stage to listen to my favorite songs and then back to conversation.

I love music, I love going to shows, and truly 98% of the time I always have an amazing night. Brave enough to go to a show by myself, but also know how much more fun it can be to be with friends that also love the music.

Bushes & Trees, roots of Friendship!

My sister and I talk about this often, the group of friend dynamic versus the having friends from different walks of life.¬† Are a bush or a tree? Neither dynamic is right or wrong, it is just different ways of interacting with people and engaging with life. ¬†There are people who have the same group of friends they hang out with often, they go on vacation with them, plan group birthday parties, dinner table of 7 etc. But trees, they have friendships that tend to be navigated more independently of each other.¬† With one trunk, that person at times brings friends together, and meets other people based off core (stronger) branches, but most of the friends are independent of each other. I had this discussion with my friend Jon a few weeks ago as we were driving over to an art show he invited me to at Warner Music Group.¬† We became friends in a roundabout way, but he introduced me to another new friend Heather, who I ran into at the art show as she is a co-worker of Jon and the WMG show was sort of an ‚Äúindustry‚ÄĚ thing (after having met at a party for Jon‚Äôs girlfriend) and invited her to wine tasting the following Monday with my co-workers.

He sort of saw the Bush vs. Tree thing like one was good and the other bad, I saw him more like a Bush but he sort of fought to be a Tree. I told him he was more like a tree with bushes at the end, like a Japanese tree.  Well after the art show, Jon and I headed over to a pizza spot where we hung out with one of his branches, his branches that possessed a little bush at the top because everyone we were eating with knew each other.

Anyway the rest of that same weekend was spent hanging out with various branches of my own trunk. Cause yes I am a tree, and the whole meeting Heather through Jon that is just basically how I make more friends. I have a lot of friends (not insanely close but people whos company I enjoy), and sometimes none of them are available to hang out. Like having cable, there are a ton of channels with nothing on; but every so often and most of the time when there is something on it’s a really epic movie from the 80’s that makes me roll on the ground laughing and have an amazing time!

*this all happened in May, now into June I have met more people I would like to get to know better and have spent multiple weekends out and about till 3am. The plethora of stories and adventures I have to share, just need to commit to writing it down.
